The Fairies Blessing

Of the many wonderful folklore tales that abound in the mystical British Isles the most charming and romantic must surely be that of the 'Hawthorn Fairies Blessing'.

On the eve of a spring wedding the bride's family made a garland of Hawthorn blossom to leave outside the house. During the night the Hawthorn Fairies were believed to descend upon the garland picking petals to shower upon the bride at the end of the ceremony thereby bringing their blessing of love, happiness and fertility. It is from this simple folklore story that today's paper wedding confetti was conceived.

To retain this wonderful romantic folklore story we will send a small packet of dried Hawthorn petals to be used or kept as a keepsake with the Victorian Wedding Pin.

Victorian Wedding Pin

How old is a tradition? There is no preset time limit. They are merely handed down customs from one generation to another. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue was contrived in Victorian times by combining many traditional customs.

SOMETHING OLD
a traditional object relating to happiness

SOMETHING NEW
symbolizes a prosperous future

SOMETHING BORROWED
represents continuity

SOMETHING BLUE
signifies fidelity

Marriage or Commitment Ceremonies represent life's renewal and a continuation of a link between ourselves and our ancestors.

We at TUMBLING WOODS are reintroducing some simple, significant traditions from our heritage that we believe will contribute to making a special day even more memorable. Many ancient customs handed down from our ancestors are almost impossible to utilise in present times. To continue the link with our origins we can retain in a small way a few rural customs and combine the past with the present.

This Victorian Wedding Pin comprises of
SOMETHING OLD: Piece of Aged Hawthorn Branch
SOMETHING NEW: Victorian Wedding Pin
SOMETHING BORROWED: from Tradition
SOMETHING BLUE: Swarovski Crystal Heart

This beautiful pin combines all four traditions including Hawthorn, the ancient Celtic tree of Hearts' Unity. It comes with an informative card in a 5x8cm silver gift box making it the perfect present and a unique keepsake for the bride on her special day.
